I was woken up to a man with a thick indian accent claiming he was from the "local federal Trade Commission" and telling me that my social security number had revealed many past crimes, particularly money laundering. He said there was a "red flag going on my name." I have never been charged with money laundering so l was confused, but concerned if my account was revealing crimes that I have never committed. He said he was texting me information about himself. I then received a brief text message simply saying "this is Peter Garcia from federal Trade Commission.". Then he started telling me I should find a private place to go so I could talk to him and explain my history and why I've got this awful money laundering mark on my social security number. I got a pen and paper and he started talking about how he was going to need information about my bank accounts so he could look into my history and see that I hadn't committed these crimes. Then he said he was sending out agents to my location to put me in custody if I didn't cooperate. At that point, I recognized the BS scam of trying to scare me into giving out personal info. The call got disconnected and I immediately received a call from a different number (626)889-4062 acting like I'm in big trouble if I don't do what he says. I knew when I saw that it was a completely different number with a different area code calling that this Indian supposedly named "Peter Garcia" supposedly from "my local federal Trade Commission" was a load of BS trying to scare me into giving out info. I didn't bother staying on the line to let him ask for my bank account info. I just told him "I know a scam when I see one. Peter Garcia my [censored]" and hung up.
