Financial Market Advantage Reports & Reviews (1)

On June 30, 2021, my husband was doing some internet research. All of a sudden the computer starting beeping loudly. A message popped up stating to call a number and he did. A person named Randy (stating he worked for Microsoft) gave us a screen sharing site and he got the beeping to stop (see attached for information). We were told we were being hacked. He gave us an explanation of how the hackers got in and showed us a list of some of the user names the hackers had gotten. He then told us we needed to purchase a Microsoft program to prevent us from being hacked again. We explained we already had McAfee and he said this program was better. He showed us three plans, two for individuals and one for business. For a total of $549.99 we could purchase a plan that would cover all of our devices and also cover any new devices we purchased. It was also a one time payment. While my husband was on the phone with Randy, I checked with a couple of friends to find out if they were aware of anything like this. They were not. With each question we asked, they had an explanation and would show us information to support what they were saying. I even stated a couple of times I thought this was a scam and he would show more information and state "Why would I give you all this information with my name, phone number, picture, etc. if it were a scam. My husband decided to purchase the plan. To do so would require an electronic transfer from our checking account. He gave them the check number, routing number, and our account number. The check was to be made out to Financial Market Advantage. I asked why the check was not being made out to Microsoft. Randy explained this company was a subsidiary of Microsoft. He should us a list of five companies Microsoft works with and explained why the check was made to Financial Market Advantage. I asked him where this company was located and he said New Jersey. I looked on the internet for this company and was not able to locate it. Again, he gave us an explanation of why it was not available. I then asked for a receipt and Randy said one would be emailed to us. It took him about a day and a half to get everything uploaded and cleaned up on our computer. On July 7, 2021, we received the attached email stating the transaction had been processed and the money would be withdrawn from our account within 3-7 business days. On July 28, 2021, Randy called to say he was notified there was a problem with the transaction and wanted me to give him the information again. I didn't. He called a couple of more times, always asking for my husband. After discussing this with my husband, I called the Better Business Bureau and they were not able to verify any of the information we were given. We were scammed. This is when we decided to contact McAfee. We had McAfee remove everything Randy had put on our computer and check to make sure our computer was safe. McAfee also explained what to do if this happened again. Randy continued to call and we would just hang up. Finally, my husband told him we contacted both the Better Business Bureau and McAfee. My husband told him we had McAfee remove everything from our computer, that we were no longer interested. Randy continued to press my husband about purchasing the program. Finally, I told my husband to just hang up.
