The scammer went by the name of Manny Ortiz. He claimed to work with FLSA Fire & Life Safety America. He reached out to me claiming he found my information on Indeed.com and was in need of a personal assistant (This was all through a text which included an email to reply to) I replied on an email asking for details. Manny then sent me details that seemed off to me stating he needed an assistant and he also needed to send me money for foster homes. I continued going back and forth with him through email as he was stating he was out of town and would schedule a formal interview once he was in town this next month. Not even a week later there was a weird check for over $4000 to be paid out to me in the mail. I immediately started tracking where it came from through the shipping label and where the return address was. I did research and found out that the tracking started in Illinois and the return address was in Oregon. The next thing i found was the check had a title loan company printed on it and an address that registered to a school in Arizona. I also noticed the address for return was registered to a bar in oregon. All of these red flags had me doing more research into this Manny Ortiz. He was listed on the website as the regional vice president. I then went on to the Better Business Bureau and looked at his company he claimed to be with. Since it was a company that was spread all across the united states I looked at any that was listed on the website and they all had good ratings. However upon reserching Manny further I found a blog about a "Personnal Assistant Scammer" on Indeed.com and they were going around sending essentially the same emails to others but one in perticular caught my eye. It was the exact same emails Manny Sent to me with the exact email adress and name. I did not cash the check and I will be reporting it to the police and anyone else to try to prevent this from happening to others.
