Irish gentleman came to my elderly parents door asking if they needed their gutters cleaned. He went on the roof to see how much it would cost. He gave them an estimate of $2,000. My parents said no and turned him away. He came back the next day, saying he left a screw driver on their roof. My dad allowed him to go and retrieve it. The man came down and asked my dad if there was anything else he my need done to the house. My dad inquired about a 6-foot privacy fence. He gave him a verbal quote of "33", which my dad thought was $3,300. As he began the work, he continued to ask my dad what else that he needed to be done. Somehow a new driveway was discussed. The man wrote up a list of services that he was going to do for my parents, and had my dad sign it. After the initial contract was signed, the contractor continued to write over in pen on the original contract without getting authorization from my father. He went to Home Depot and purchased bricks for about $200, and added the upcharge to $8,100. This is \when I stepped in, and when I confronted the contractor who could not show any permits for the work being done and could not produce his contractors license, I called the Old Bridge Township Police - in which time three of his workers fled. The number on the contract is no longer in service, but the contract lists two other numbers that we have called and they are saying that someone is using their business name to scam people. Note, the man telling me this has a very strong Irish accent.
