She seemed very knowledgable, caring and friendly, and had the basic information about me that led me to believe that she worked with my student loan lender. I, naively, ended up giving her information such as: my social security number, my bank account and routing numbers, my husband's name and cell phone number, my current address, my mother and step-father's names, cell phone numbers and current address, my driver's license number and the address that we are soon moving to.
She ultimately wanted me to electronically sign documents she had emailed me that would initiate the beginning of this process to switch me over to loan consolidation and an income-based payment plan. I ended up dropping the call with her because I had a weird feeling, and I called my mother and then my student loan lender. Eliza called back and left a voicemail because I did not answer the second time (and I did not sign any of the documents). My student loan lender said that students are often scammed in a similar fashion to what I had described and that they had never heard of this company before, and furthermore, oftentimes when students call, complaining that they cannot login to their student loan accounts, the address on file has been switched to the Newport Beach, CA area. She advised me to call my bank and local law enforcement to report the call.
I closed my bank account entirely (as I was going to switch banks eventually anyways) and I reported the situation to the local police, whom I conducted a statement with. I then called Equifax to have my SS# flagged for 90 days.
