This business, Fix It Garage Door Repair, is listed in a Google Search for garage door repair. I called and left a message. Someone from a different phone number called back same day and arranged to come give an estimate and do the repair. Two people in a truck with no company identification came and performed the repair, then provided me with the estimate of $1,798.82. The company name on the estimate, Leominster Garage Inc, was different than the company I called. They showed me the estimate quickly on a tablet screen, then asked for a check made out to another company, Master Key LLC. I wrote the check but immediately after they left I checked the emailed estimate which was blank except for a list of generic names for parts ("springs, cables, pulleys") and the total. I wrote to the email address on the estimate requesting a detailed receipt and warranty information. The email bounced. I called my bank and stopped the check while I investigated further. I then called another local company and explained the situation. They told me there was no way that job should have cost more than $300. I called the Fix It Garage Door number again and told them we'd stopped the check and that we weren't paying anything until we had a legitimate company come and check the work and we certainly weren't paying 6 times what it should have cost. All they said was, "Okay."
