Total money lost $327
Type of a scam Other
A roundtrip flight to North Carolina was booked for $327.05. A sales rep called at 3:22 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024 and stated she was confirming my order. She then asked about luggage. When I told her there would not be any checked bags, only a carry-on, she stated that was not allowed. She further stated that the discounted price I paid ($327.05) did not include a carry-on with American Airlines and to be able to bring a carry-on there would be an additional fee, with the new total being $798.
The conversation with FlightMover went on for almost two hours. During that time, I was disconnected and I immediately called back, only to be told that the rep "went on break for 40 minutes and no one else could help me"; I refused to hang up and wait on a return call. When she finally came back to the call, she continued with her bait-and-switch monologue, saying that "I should have known such a cheap price was not possible and that there would be additional fees adding up to $798 to get the tickets". My son spoke to her as well, with no results. He asked to speak to her supervisor and she said there was no supervisor there. I took the call back and insisted on speaking to a supervisor. I was given the same runaround that there was no supervisor there. Her story changed then to say it would be an hour before anyone would be available because they had a "process they had to go through to get a supervisor". During the conversation, I asked her where she was physically located and she didn't know. I could hear her asking someone and she finally came back to the call and said "Houston". Her supervisor, Jake Smith, eventually came on the line 40 minutes later. He was more insulting that she was and said that apparently I was not smart enough to realize that $327.05 sounded too good to be true. After much back and forth, he finally asked me what I wanted, to which I replied that I wanted my money back. He said that wasn't going to happen. I pointed out to him that bait-and-switch tactics are illegal and that he was running a scam. He said it wasn't a scam and again that I should have been smart enough to know $327.05 wasn't a reasonable amount. He then hung up on me.
The female rep and Jake Smith were both loud and insulting and both I and my son raised our voices when they continued to talk over us. The female rep at one point asked me if I knew the call was being recorded. I replied that I did and I was glad that it was.
I spoke with four different people at FlightMover (two in addition to the female rep and Jake Smith when I called back after being disconnected). None of the four spoke intelligibly because their accents were so heavy they were hard to understand; Jake Smith was the hardest to understand. This leads me to believe the company is located in a foreign country, possibly India.
I called my credit card company to stop the payment and was assured it would be stopped. I learned a valuable lesson and hope you will be able to get the word out that FlightMover is not reputable and is a scam.
I am very concerned that they have my date of birth, mailing address, and credit card number and that information will be used for nefarious purposes. Hopefully, my credit card company will be able help prevent any future charges from being made. Any help you can give is appreciated.
