Annie didn’t want to have a video call, she wanted me to add her to text within zoom. She then sent me detailed info over text about the company and the position and it seemed legit enough. I then answered standard interview questions, at this point i realized “Annie” is using AI to navigate the process, as she is always online and responds, and speaks like a robot with formal business speak at all times, sharing automated responses.
After my interview she asked me to “check in” at 8 to receive my first assignment, which is hiring docs. The offer letter seems legit. The company website seems legit. W4 and w9 forms, my signature on company policies.
She also asked for my bank of choice, and I said the name do the bank. She did not ask for account number.
On these forms I gave:
Full name
Address
Social security number
Birthday
Signature
I did not send over copies of my id or passport, but it was requested. I just sent back forms only.
The next day I had to “check in”
She told me she was going to send a UPS tracking package to my address, was very concerned I was tracking it and would get it. It was a check for $4,300 from Old Navy. Remember this company is named flowers. Supposedly, I was to use the money to buy my necessary office supplies.
I had a bad feeling about this job- no face to face interview or even phone interview at all, immediately hired me based on text message interview didn’t want to ask for references or uni transcripts. Immediately sending me a check in the mail? Promising to pay me $35 an hour when I was entry level?
I googled the company and much to my suspicion, multiple people have called out this same company for being a scam.
I told the “hiring director” I resign and did NOT provide any reason for “quitting” or accuse them of being a scam. No reply on their end.
My guess is that they will sell my info to other scams, possibly try to open accounts with my info. If you cash the check there could be other issues and problems associated with this. Do not cash suspicious checks!
To protect myself I’ve put a freeze on my credit, called my bank to discuss my safety, changed my phone number.
This isn’t the first job offer in linked in I’ve seen that turns out to be a big scam. Be careful!
