Follett - Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- Las Cruces, NM, USA • Aug 10, 2024

i responded to job listed on indeed.com for temporary seasonal retail associates at the NMSU college bookstore at 1400 e university ave in las cruces nm which is run by Follett. i immediately to set up phone interview which i did for the nxt week. Immediately received text confirming 4 min time slot i chose. i received "reminder texts" to be available 10 min before & after assigned time. I was waiting for the call but it was over 10 min late when I received voicemail from "Mike" apologizing for being late and saying he wld call within 5 min which he did. He asked a few basic questions abt retail experience/desired hours & availability then put me on hold for abt a min and told me i was hired pending the completion of "onboarding" via txt & email. i immediately received an email confirming the offer and began receiving txts and emails from a different placement agency who coordinated hiring & onboarding for Follett. I submitted all my personal identifying documentation to them via text including SS# and passport photos that had to be verified by a 2nd person at my location. I did all that and then had to disclose all of my banking a/c details for direct deposit of pay. I was set up w/an account (supposedly ADP) who received all my personal bank details along with a link to an online time clock where i kept track of my own time pertaining to clocking in and out each workday. A day and time was set to report to the NMSU bookstore for my 1st day. There were abt 10-15 others there reporting for their 1st day who had also applied through the indeed.com ad. after abt 15 minutes a staff person named Daniel appeared where we were all waiting in the NMSU bookstore cafe and simply stated that the jobs we were hired for had been rescinded that very morning due to "budget issues" and he was sorry for the inconvenience but we would all be paid for that day and we all had to leave the premises. No pay was issued/no further explanation or follow up communication from "Follett" regarding how our financial and identification documents would be addressed .

The jobs didn't actually exist and they weren't just postponed to a later start date-they were never going to exist in the NMSU Las Cruces college bookstore.

How did this 'job posting' appear and then disappear from indeed.com? When i went to my a/c to view 'saved jobs' and 'jobs applied for' the listing wasn't there altho other jobs i had saved and/or applied to were listed. All evidence of this Follett job had been totally removed.

I've saved all the texts/emails/the voicemail apologizing for the 'late' phone interview and the 2 phone numbers these calls originated from.

I hope some light can be shed on this total scam and the parties involved should be held accountable. I have no idea where my personal information ended up or where the "pay" for that day was deposited.

Thank you for any advice or assistance you can provide. This scam was so well orchestrated and duped not only myself but 10-15 other individuals who reported in good faith to the New Mexico State University Las Cruces bookstore on 8/5/2024 at 10am to begin the job that was confirmed several times via email including an email sent Sun 8/4/24 reminding us that Day #1 was the NEXT DAY at 10am.
