Type of a scam Tech Support
A couple weeks after the closing, a tech who called himself Ron contacted me and said that I had malware on my laptop. Believing him to be Expert Tech, I began working with him. At this time, Ron was my only contact person (His name is the one listed in the Scammer Phone box). Unlike Expert Tech, which had their own permission-activated software to access my laptop, Ron had me install AnyDesk software. He identified over 6000 malware attacks on my laptop and showed me a list.
At this point, a deposit appeared in my checking account. Ron instructed me to use part of the balance in the deposit to pick up a commercial gift card. Upon purchase, I was to call him with the verification numbers on the purchase. The remaining balance of the deposit was to compensate me for my "trouble." This occurred three times, with the third deposit jumping to over $4000. When I asked the reason for the practice, he could not give me a sensible answer. Of course, I am changing my account at the bank.
