Fox Rent A Car was used on a recent trip of ours. The company was chosen through Capital Ones travel booking website. Upon arriving at the rental car lot, the person checking us in attempted to charge us for things we did not authorize (gas, additional insurance, toll passes). We did not ask for any add-ons and the person did not check with us before adding it to our invoice. Had we not looked carefully we would have pre-paid for a lot of things that we did not want. The booking was pre-paid so they were going to just charge the credit card we had on file with them even though we did not authorize any additional charged. The agent also let us know that if we use any toll roads we could either borrow their toll pass and pay $100 or use toll rolls and pay for what we use later. The later seemed like the more reasonable option since we planned to use a toll road only once during out trip and it would cost only $7. After we returned home from our trip, we began getting charges for multiple multiple tolls and charged "administrative fees" that were sometimes 3 or 4x's the cost of the toll itself. Again, the toll bridge we crossed was $7 but we were charged $68 due to the rental cars "administrative fee". Because they didn't provide us a copy of the rental agreement, I can't verify that they mentioned this fee. But I know we didn't sign anything that warned us they would be doing this. This is a total scam and money making scheme for them that I now see others have complained about in public forums. I don't know how this business is allowed to operate such a scam. We are now 6 weeks out from out trip and still being charged for tolls we don't think we used. Awful awful awful. Fox Rent A Car should be held accountable for this ridiculous and fraudulent practice they are participating in.
