It was my first time on freelancer.com and I was offered a job. I accepted the job and was instructed to communicate via WhatsApp. A contract was sent to me to sign to be paid as a personal assistant. I did a week's worth of work and demanded payment. A check was emailed to me to cash via the mobile app. The check was no good. I sill have the check.

I haven’t received my activation link for my account.

I had signed up with hopes that this company would help me supplement my income of earning $180 per day. This company reached out to me from a reputable freelance website Freelancer.com.

My name is *** *** and I was scammed out of $12.99 USD by Freelance.com a company purported to be headquartered in France, who said to have offices in UK, USA and Bangladesh.

I have been in contact with them to get my refund of $12.99 USD only to be told that I will not be refunded the amount because I have stopped the process in the middle. This was done as I was told that I will have to pay an additional $21.99 USD to have my account activated.

When I inquired why I need to pay this extra $21.99 I was told that I needed to this to activate my workstation. Now why would I need to pay to have my account activated when they stated that in their email that I can have my account activated for $12.99 USD.

When I had threatened them in calling the ScamPulse.com a compromised was form that my account will be activated and I can pay this $21.99 USD at a later date. However, they kept on sending invoices, saying that I should activate the invoice, but when I told them I am having difficulty and again I requested the refund of my $12.99 as stipualated by them, I was told I will not get my money.

I sent them an email stating that

You have stated that I my account will be activated, and I will pay the 21.99 at a later date.

Now, we have tried several ways in which my account can be activated and I have seen where this cannot be done

Where as the commitment between both parties can be beneficial, there must be another way in order for my account to be activated where I do the necessary jobs to earn the 21.99 and I am committed to paying.

Where as this is not forth coming, I am requesting my refund of 12.99 as stipulated by your initial emails to me. If not, I will be consulting my lawyer for legal advice in recovering my 12.99

As I have said before I will be reporting your company to the ScamPulse.com as well as to the ones in France and Bangladesh where you are located.

Best Regards

I was met with this response.

I was trying to help you but here again you come with your useless threats. Kindly note that we do not condone such childish threats. You may engage even a million lawyers if you wish, take it to CNN, BBC, ** *** ** **. Involve even the FBI if you so wish.

All the best in your quest.

In my efforts in getting my refund of $12.99 USD, I quietly demanded that this be returned to me by the end of the day. I was met with this response.

You WILL NOT BE RECEIVING ANY refunds. Kindly contact them asap.

Thank you

Now this company has violated its own terms of contract.

Why is it that a company Freelance.com is using Freelancer Platform to look for victims?

That is the question that I would love to have answers to.
