Scam appeared as a message on FB from Microsoft indicating there was fraudulent activity on one of my accounts and to call the number 909.588.0345 which appeared on my laptop screen. Scammer identified himself as a representative from the FTC Fraud Department and said accounts in my name were being used to fund child porn in Russia. My laptop was “taken over”. They asked which credit cards I own and the available credit on each one. I was instructed to buy 9 separate Lowes gift cards each with a value of $2000 (total of $18,000.). I was instructed to keep the representative on speaker phone so he could hear me complete the Lowe’s transaction. He said the police could charge me $5000 if I let anyone know why I was making the purchase. The scammers have the last four numbers of my social security number and a recording of my voice as they had me read aloud and repeat info back. They also have my email address and physical address. Lowes cashier would only process 2 $2000. When I got into my car the scammer asked me to reveal the covered up PIN numbers on the 2 gift cards. At that point I knew I was being scammed. I hung up on the scammer and did not provide the PIN numbers. I went back into Lowe’s and they were able to cancel the purchase of the gift cards.
