Today, I saw that they had again charged me, this time directly to my debit card without my knowledge or consent, which confirms that this is a scam. I am currently protesting the charges with my bank and have filed a paypal dispute as well because of this scam.

The email I received requesting I pay for a background check:

"Dear Victor,
After reviewing your application, we are delighted to inform you that you are the perfect candidate for the job. Congratulations on your offer of employment with Gadget Vendor! This e-mail confirms your acceptance of the Data Entry Position. We will contact you to establish your start date upon satisfactory results of your background check. Please go to https://goo.gl/cEYDkV and fill out your background check by 3/24/2016.
Once your start date is confirmed, your manager will contact you to welcome you to the GV team. You will also receive two emails containing important information, including first day reporting instructions and details on the new hire process. Be sure to read this information carefully.
