- Rocky Mount, VA, USA

I was contacted via text. All interview processes were conducted using Skype text. The initial person said his name was David Mark with Adecco Group. Since I had applied using CareerBuilder to multiple jobs I just assumed that this was from one of those. I was told to sign into Skype and talk to John Bell. I went through a lengthy texting interview and decided it was because it would be a remote position and that they want to see how fast I responded. The next morning I was back on Skype to learn what the hiring manager had to say. He said I was hired. Then said I would receive an Apple laptop and a printer with fax etc. along with other supplies needed for the job. I was never told exactly what the job would be but decided since he told me it would have peechtree software that I would need to purchase with a check they would send me and I was to keep $200 for sign on that it was an accounting position which was one of the jobs that was sent at the beginning. I was still suspicious after the conversation ended and looked it up on BBB. I have not received anything and since it is Friday and I’m not to be on Skype again until Monday, I decided to investigate. The phone number I received the text from is from Florida and I have tried to call it many times over and it is always busy. This is definitely a SCAM.

I was contacted by Gary Sousis via Google Hangouts regarding a work from home data entry position. I had my suspicions this was a scam, and after doing research on Gary Sousis from the addeco group my suspicions were confirmed. Do not fall for this scam please. I thankfully didn't give any banking information. I just hope that other people will do their research and avoid being scammed out of their money.

I've been looking for work for months as a new Permanent Resident to Canada, and my mother in law shared a call for job applicants on Facebook. She was familiar with Adecco and recommended them as a good employer. So I reached out to the Facebook poster and was given a gmail address to submit my resume to.

On Google Hangouts I was contacted by the email address [email protected] and was asked to answer a series of simple questions. The job offered $22/hour, 25 hours per week, remote. I was given the job after 30 minutes of questions and waiting for "executives" to discuss my application. I was overjoyed. But when they discussed sending me a cheque to buy equipment to get started, the situation began looking suspicious.

I gave them a profile photo of myself, and my contact information--phone, address, even my deposit info for my bank account--but when they asked me for my online banking login information, insisting that their system for sending cheques was in maintenance, it was the final straw. I asked for Interac e-transfer instead, but they said that was down too. When I refused to give my banking login, they stopped messaging back. The person on Google Hangouts also immediately changed from "adecco1902" to "Gary Sousis."

As a newcomer to Canada, I have faced rental scams, and now an employment scam, and I am very discouraged about my future here. Something needs to be done about this.
