GE Assist Global Entry Scam

I googled Global Entry application and started filling out my application on the first website that came up. I was with coworkers and was going through the process quickly. I submitted my expense report with my work supervisor after and he said I should have only paid $100, not $249 and that I would only be reimbursed $100 for my expense.

After missing a flight due to long TSA lines, I resolved to apply for Global Entry. I googled the Global Entry program and clicked the first link in Google's search results (GE Assist / "Apply Global Entry") - the landing page looked just like the TSA pre-check enrollment application form, but then led to another site (https://ge.apply-global-entry.com/apply) that described itself as a "third party specializing in applications for global fast track and registered traveler services."

The intake form solicits basic biographic data, 5 years of address history, 5 years of employment history, driver license and passport information, contact info and your credit card number. The site shows the secure icon (/ begins with https://) and the checkout page itemizes the total charge into two line items: $100 for the TSA Global Entry fee and $149.95 for "paperwork preparation." The confirmation email didn't look quite right, and I realized the application flow was strange in that there was no login/account creation step, and the site was hosted on Wordpress. I read on the TSA site that Global Entry does not have any approved third-party vendors.
