Type of a scam Tech Support
Another notice came up on the computer to contact GEEKSONLINE computer service. The second man I spoke to said, "You were just hacked by an online criminal. These people will stop at nothing." He won my trust then asked when I bought the computer. After running a "diagnostic" program he found dozens of malware hits from around the time I bought the computer to the present time. I was alarmed by this news and purchased the 5 year warranty for $500. He was adamant that I pay him with a check and not with my credit card. The "Help Hotline" number was placed in the lower right corner of my computer supposedly for future assistance.
A couple days later I called the number he placed on my computer and the the voice I heard was the man with the thick accent. At that moment I knew I was scammed! They sold me a false product in order to get access into my computer. The second man (GEEKSONLINE number) was the person who put the malware into my computer. They could have cleaned out my bank account. That's why they wanted a check. These guys are so shrewd in the way they teamed up. I took my computer to Best Buy's Geek Squad. They told me there was another older couple before me that were also scammed. Immediately I cancelled my credit card. Now the credit card company tells me I'm stuck with the bill.
