Yesterday I received an email from Lauren Mitchell (lauren@geeksquadsonlinecom). The email explained that my annual technical support subscription was due for renewal and that 299.99 would be auto debited on 11/11/2020. This transaction would occur in the next 24hrs. I was to call the technical support office if I wished to upgrade or cancel my subscription. The phone number to call stated 1 844-956-1506. I never had subscribed to this program and immediately called the phone number provided in the email to cancel. I first spoke to a female but did not understand what she was saying due to background noise, she immediately transferred me to a male but the background noise continued. I asked to be taken off speaker phone. He told me his name was Ryan William when I asked to whom was I speaking, I believe this was a false name as he spoke with an accent. In addition, he spoke very quickly - I interrupted to tell him why I was calling. I explained that I never ordered such a program and wanted this canceled immediately. He explained they could not do that and he kept talking. I was asked to download a program he provided in order to show me what services I was receiving, again I stated that I never ordered this and was calling to cancel. I stopped the download. I was asked to sign in to my bank at which point I stated I would not, if they had planned to auto debit for renewal they should have that information and most importantly I had never had such a request as they were suggesting. I explained that I believed this was a scam and hung up. I have not been charged for any service at this time.
