Type of a scam Tech Support
On 10/26/2021my computer went into alarms associated with Microsoft Security, a flashing light and my computer froze. I couldn’t turn off the sound. A phone number flashed on my screen warning that spyware and malware had been detected and I should not use the computer as it could infect those I communicate with. The information on the screen said protection could be obtained from Genotech Webcare Solutions at 1-800-917-6070. So I phoned and spent hours with the associate scanning my computer, showing me malware and viruses and getting them out. Then they offered to protect my computer with well known products (Microsoft network security shield, Adblocker, Anti Hacking Spyware). I spoke with several different people and bought a subscription for 7 years for $349.99
On 12/13/2021 I was contacted by phone by Genotech and told there was a problem on my side they would like to look at. I gave them access via Ultraviewer. The same voice called back to say that they found they had made a mistake and only signed me up for 7 months instead of 7 years and would refund my money and start over when the 7 months was over. That person sent me to Sam Wilson in Banking. He led me to believe that he needed access to my checking account to refund my money as a way to get around taxes and in that process claimed that a mistake I made in typing led to $20,000. being put into my account from the company's Chase Bank account. (I could see it had been deposited). Then he seemed very upset about loosing his job and convinced me I needed to aire $19600. to another bank his colleague traveling in Vietnam was near. Since I had his money and my refund due was about $400. that made some sense. When I was reluctant, he said there was one other potential solution to reverse the deposit, but it might take out all the funds from my accounts. I told him to try and he showed me he could indeed capture all my money. So I agreed to go wire the money. He threatened that if I went online with my bank account until he knew the money was received, I could lose it all. So I didn't look at my online account until the next morning when I determined the fraud. He had not deposited 20,000. in my account, but taken $15,000 from my savings, put it into my checking and having enough in my checking then to make up the $19,600. I wired to Vietnam.
