Type of a scam Online Purchase
From recommendation by a family member when I needed a comfortable, adjustable bed "now" for my dying husband (though he went much more quickly than anyone could have guessed), I looked quickly on their site, phoned them and got a woman who was kind-of lackadaisical with a bad connection, but was promised I would have the bed in a few days. That was on Friday Dec 4. Expensive adjustable Twin XL frame and accompanying mattress arrived on Wed Dec 9, and was set up in family room. I went out to Walmart and bought mattress protector and sheets. Husband tried it but was not real impressed, admittedly he was not in good shape. No one ever "used" it and it is very clean. He passed away late on Thurs Dec 10.
Sat Dec 12th my daughter trying to be helpful initiated a return on their site. We never heard back. I called the 855 number on Thurs Dec 17, after the funeral and everyone had left. I was still in a sense of shock at that point. The Cust. Service rep who answered, a man this time, went from friendly to aggressive and hostile when I started explaining the situation and saying I wanted to return the complete package. (At that point not all components had even arrived, now, all have arrived but none of the other boxes holding the sheets, protectors, "free" pillow, and brackets have been opened out of their shipping boxes.) I was astonished at his attitude, I thought he was playing semantics games. Basically he told me I was out of luck, no returns, because I told him first that the person it was intended for had died, not because we did not find it was comfortable. I was very upset. I told him my husband had not found it comfortable, and I had tried it and also did not find it comfortable, but he yelled at me that I could not change my story.
After hanging up with him I called my credit card company to find that the entire purchase had been put on my card the day of ordering, even though it took over two weeks to send out all the components (SEND out, per their emails, not received).
Yesterday, Jan 4,with my mind more clear, I went on their website and really dug deep. Per the verbiage down deep, I will admit, it is easily found if you dig, the upfront return policy advertised as "Hassle free returns"; "Other mattress companies just want you to buy their bed - but once you do, they ghost you"; "dozens [of reps] ... ready ... to help you solve any issue..."; "if you have a problem, we've got your back..."; "100% Money-back guarantee" ... are VERY misleading. Once you dig down there are very tight restrictions, and yes, it states "..Products..covered.. covers mattresses as well as .. pillows. All other items are final sale and cannot be returned." SO ... that means the very expensive adjustable frame?! ... what do I do with a frame without the mattress?! Also unopened shipping cartons with the sheets, brackets, etc.?! What good are the brackets?!
Also, the coup de gras ... "anything not covered?.. Yes.... cancellations/ requests to cancel, and changes in circumstances are not covered by the 101 Night Sleep Trial, and will void the sleep trial." In other words, THIS was the point on the rep's mind when he got hostile and aggressive with me ... my husband had died and I did not want the entire setup, so no-go on any returns.
Long story short, this may be an actual company, but I would classify their advertising as a scam, verbiage that draws a customer in, and then when there is a problem, they do NOT have your back, but they DO have your money. Their business model and advertising are very questionable, and a scam of sorts.
Have you heard/read of any other reports like this on this company? What can be done about this?
