I ordered a motorized scooter from Gilbertazautorepair.com for$66.99 I didn’t get a confirmation email or receipt or anything from the company! They took my credit card information and nothing came from them, phone number was fake, address fake, item fake no return or anything! Company does not exist! Can’t get in touch with them at all! item is gone from online, everything about them is now gone! I just want my refund!

- Raleigh, NC, USA

The web site claimed to be selling an item I was looking for ("Disc-O-Bed Youth Kid-O-Bunk & Disc-O-Bed Non-Slip Foot Pads (4-Pack)") for $119.99 (compared to Sam's Club's online price of $199.98). The price was interesting, but the web site looked sketchy. I tried calling the phone number listed on the web site's "About us" page, but the number was out of service. The "About us" page had a Google map of their location, but showed a location in San Francisco, not El Paso (the address given).

A Google Maps search of the address on the web site and domain registration info shows what is a residential area in Street View.

Sensing that this was going in a bad direction, I did a whois lookup on the domain name (gilbertazautorepair.com), where the same address in El Paso is listed for the Registrant, Administrative, and Technical contacts, all listed under the name Rebecca Almodovar. However, a different phone number was listed than the one on the web site, so I tried calling this number--it was also out of service.

By this time, I was pretty sure that this was a fraudulent online seller, possibly one that entices sales with "too good to be true" pricing, but never delivers the product. Refunds are probably given, but only after delays in order to lengthen the "float" time, which is how such a scammer actually makes money. (I've seen this kind of scam before.)

Just to test this, I used the web site's search to look for a common product ("cooler"). Among other items, the search returned an "Engel Coolers 74 Quart 75 Can High Performance Roto Molded Ice Cooler, Blue", priced at $94.99. The exact same item is $389.99 on Amazon. Amazingly, the Google product search also included a result for this item on www.gilbertazautorepair.com for $60.99--an even lower price than was turned up by their site's product search!

I think you get the picture.
