- Auburn, CA, USA

My desktop computer froze with a big message (which look very authentic and legitimate) from Microsoft, which said "call (855) 444-2788 within 5 minutes to your MICROSOFT TECHNICIAN SUPPORT IMMEDIATELY, or all of your data will be erased and compromised as well as your name, address, all key personal information and all credit card information for others to use at their own leisure." I did call thinking it was MICROSOFT TECH SUPPORT. I unfortunately allowed this faux tech gain remote access and clear the virus and malware and then they showed me where it was infected and how many files doing this remotely, still believing this was real. After offering me a discount price for a year package for McAfee Virus/Firewall Plan, I told them that I could not make payment now and it had to be next week. I have themmy checking account number still thinking it was legitimate by what the female tech was doing remotely. She was doing all the work on my computer to clean up the virus' and malware while I was on the phone. She then passed me to her accounts person. I told the accounts person that I had a credit card only and she said they do not accept credit cards, only checking. At first I thought that was unusual, but also knowing that these days every vendor or retailer I know has some really bizarre policy about not taking cash, checks for more then $10.00, minimum credit card transactions of $100 or more and the like, so I did not think it was that weird.

After the "transaction" without me paying was done. My husband happened to call who works in a field that is very, very knowledgeable of these tactics and shared Witt me this scam word for word and made me feel like a complete [censored] and asked why I believed them. And I said because of the Microsoft logo on the desktop page with the message and that I as not aware that "others" could do this at all. I was under the stark impression that only Microsoft could access my computer. That's when I got really, really mad!!!! I called the "Global Hightech Solutions this morning and fiddled around with them a bit and told them not to process my payment because they caused my computer to crash. I actually took it apart. I am unable to get any picture of what not for proof because I am afraid that they will see what I am doing.

Loss of money - Not that I have discovered at this time. But I told "Sophie" that my account better not be charged! Or I will have to come out to visit.
