Scammer son ring doorbell to offer power wash service and give neighbor’s name as reference of his good work. Indicate he also do other type of masonry work. Scammer son offer free inspection for Chimney and brought scammer father within minutes. Then took one side of chimney apart within one hour when I was not home. Scammer father said they used a live camera for inspection. a $2700 repair job and needs three days to complete. I was shocked and horrified to see the chimney was taken apart for free inspection. Before I agree on terms, they start doing something by the chimney. Scammer son called me "psycho" when I said $2700 is too expensive. They make me sign a "contract", which I realized later it’s a Proposal. Day one they brought two tubes of caulk and a 4" plywood and did some work. Majority of the time the scammer worker was sitting on the roof. At the end of the day, scammer son said work will be completed by next day noon.
I was very comfortable about of what the scammer was doing, I sat outside on Day 2 to watch them as soon as they start working. Within an hour I notice the worker was put parts back in the wrong sequence. And the workers trying to put back the crown of the chimney by reusing the old rusty parts. I told the worker to stop, and I need to contact scammer. Work was stopped. Hours later scammer son came to pick up old parts to customize. When asked to bring the old and new parts back, scammer son yelled “You told me fives times already, you psycho woman”. Scammer father came to get cash for customize parts and labor. Customize parts won’t till 3pm and the place is far away. When asked to bring back old parts, scammer father yelled “You said five times already, you psycho women. Do you want me to stop working?” No work done from 11am to 4:30pm . Scammer father called two hours later said work is done.
Day 3, Scammer father was contacted by phone the chimney work needed to be checked and verify that was done truly and correctly. 30 minutes later, numerous phone calls and text messages from both father and son, demanding payment and chimney will have to be taken apart again. Scammer son wait for me to come home and asked for payment. One of the Neighbours told scammer son work need to verify done to satisfaction. Scammer son drove around a few times before taking off.
Day 4, Early morning, Scammer father sent message demanding $700 to pay “Angry workers” and $500 when the work get looked at. “Work will be undone if you don’t comply”.
After being traumatized, insulted, intimidated, threaten, feeling unsaved even in my own home for so many days, I stopped by police station to file a statement.
As I returned home, scammer father and scammer son parked their trucks to block the entrance of my driveway. Scammer father asked for payment and indicated if not pay, he will come collect on the weekend when my husband is home. 911 call was made, and scammer father took off before police arrived.
Day 5, scammer father deleted the voice calls and the threatening messages. Called policy because scammer sent a message hinting he was watching me, he saw a guy looked at my chimney. Scammer deleted the message after policy was gone.
Both scammers were aware that I was alone, female and is a senior. They act very quick, shock you by surprise and then make you comply. They count on your inexperience and ignorance of home improvement jobs. Works seamed to only proceed when homeowner was not around. Fear is one of the many tactics used to collect payment. Such as if I don’t pay him, he will tell my husband.
Workers were scammers too. Scammer workers praised scammers father has years of experience, excellent workmanship and very religion.
