Hit some link online that prompted the flashing Microsoft Defender 'your system is compromised - call this 888 - xxx-xxxx number now' with audio. Looked 'scammy' but I called the number. I ask the name of the firm - NOT Microsoft - they are a '3rd party provider'. 'Steve' tells me that pc has (as the screen suggests) trojan/ virus/network compromised etc. Installs screen sharing and tells me he can troubleshoot and clean up for $299 but can't take credit card (for security reasons ; ) will take a check. But what I REALLY need is Network security (shows me network traffic of x users on my screen and other stats). I ask why my McAfee and other installed security systems are not alerting me. He has some word salad about this. I don't see that 'Steve' has actually done any cleanup but the flashing screen is gone. After about 45 min or so, he transfers me to another person. Now "Paul" is pitching me on the NETWORK security side of things. He types out his pitch on notepad and I ask him questions. He sounds a bit frustrated with me that I'm not rushing headlong into the sale. Slightly after an hour of this when he has quoted $999 for a year of protection (it was hard not to laugh out loud) I cut him off. I tell him that I believe all of this is a big scam and I probably just wasted an hour of my life. I will follow up with a data security friend of mine to determine if there was in fact a breach/hack/trojan horse/ virus. If I determine that there was an issue, and I research his company and find it checks out, I will call him and apologize and possibly buy his product. I hand up.

A big blue screen popped up on my computer and I couldn't shut it down or clear it. So like a fool I called the number given. On the blue screen they said they were certified by microsoft to help me. So I called and spent 2 hours on the phone, allowed the person named Aleena to access my computer and clear the trojan virus. Then Brian Phillips from globalbytes ip solutions came on to take a check which he wanted me to scan to him which I did. After I hung up I just didn't feel right about this so I automatically called my bank and cancelled the check I wrote. That check had to be written to another business-Techmax IT Solutions which I thought strange. I am glad I cancelled the check because the next day I took my computer into a local computer place to have it looked at and ended up paying $165 to have it cleaned because they found the following: Removed several viruses, then checked for remote software which they cleared. They completely cleaned my computer. I am so glad my gut told me something wasn't right and the only money I lost was to have it cleaned. But now these people are calling me, saying mine went into collections. I am, for now, ignoring them.

They claimed to be Apple Support when I got the message on my laptop that my computer has been compromised and I needed to call immediately and not shut down computer or press any keys that could spread the virus. They were very nice, all three had middle eastern accents. They accessed my computer by installing software that I did not authorize. Then they asked for payment for "repairing the firewall" in the amount of $431.98. They required a check and then claimed that it could show up on our bank statement with a different number on it. The check was made out to TECH IT Solutions. There were SO MANY red flags. I was advised to NOT call Apple, but rather Globalbytes for future assistance. I got no sleep that night and call Apple Support first thing in the morning. They assured me that this was a scam. We closed the checking account. They continued to try to contact my husband and I. We blocked their numbers (the ones that we had record of) and finally my husband answered a call to let them know that we realized it was a scam and we would go to the authorities. Still not leaving us alone. He received an email on 12/12 threatening to start legal proceeding if we did not pay. We have done nothing since, nor heard anymore at this point.

They were very good convinced me I need a firewall to protect my IP address. Had on the answers to my concerned question. They log in to my computer and showed my my passwords and our ss numbers. They offered service to keep my computer safe and would check in and be sure everything was ok. All the phone numbers when called me back where spams risk. They had a answer for that too. Said I needed a firewall for my wifi, that who I had did not offer that. They where very believable. I dont have computer knowlege just the basic.

They said because the phone didnt work when I call the person was on it working on my computer.

Becaused I blocked my check they said they would put is in collections. If I wanted to cancel the service I could pay a one time fee of $399.
