The job offer was posted on an aggregate site (Indeed, Handshake, AlumsOnly, etc. I do not remember the specific site), and I submitted an application with qualifications and cover letter. The HR respondent reached out to me via Email with a convincing-looking email (very little formatting, proper grammar, correct email DOMAIN origination, correct spelling) with an interview over Slack. Much of the interview was professional and respectful and the interviewer and I parted ways on mutually respectful terms. I accepted the job offer immediately and they met my Salary expectations, set up an admin assistant email account under the correct domain name. However they then sent a list of Apple products for me to purchase, claiming they were necessary to the WFH administrative experience. We were in discussion about how reimbursement works (do they pay? Do I pay? Do I pay then present receipts then they pay?, when they said that they had a vendor who could sell these products wholesale, and that I should go through them. I agreed as that would streamline the acquisition of equipment, however what immediately set off RED FLAGS is that they asked how much I could float upfront (I said 2000$ max without support). They then asked me to Zelle a payment, I immediately said no. I said there was no protection, and to go through a proper payment processor like Paypal. They then arranged a Paypal account (PayPal Name: Gustavo Sandoval, PayPal Tag: @SSG469, PayPal Email: [email protected], payment method: FAMILY AND FRIENDS ONLY). Again, another red flag, I declined. At that point I decided it is better to contact any online resources to report this elaborate scam.
