I am an elder. I am frightened by this call for many reasons. Globe Life Insurance "Nationwide" called me on my home phone specifically looking for my son, who "filled out an application for life insurance." I asked if it was on himself or someone else. They said for himself. He does not live with me, however, as a special needs adult person, I help him along the way as I can. As I pursued who, why, Globe was calling, they finally gave me some info. I played along with questions, YET, not giving them the answers they wanted. This is what I found: 1) They had his name correct, less the Jr. at the end. 2) Of course they had my phone # because they called me. 3) Did have my address. 4) Asked my name so finally I only gave them my first name to try to get as much information as I could by pretending to cooperate. And when they asked if my last name was the same as my son's....I lied and just said yes. 5) They kept asking me over and over for his height and weight. I kept asking them why they needed that -- made no sense ... so I did not answer that question. 6) Instead, I asked them if they had his social security number and they said no, "they did not need it." 7) They did have his date of birth. As I pursued, I said this: I have found that your company has been reported for SCAMS. Her answer was: You will need to address that with our customer service department.
BOTTOM LINE TO THE BBB: I am educated and usually can take these things with a grain of salt. No longer can I do it on my own. And, I constantly worry about my son's mental capabilities, sometimes taken in by others where I need to STOP issues, especially if it pertains to MY PERSONAL FINANCES BEING PROTECTED.
Please help me through this so I can keep on keeping on along with many issues.....I know we all have.
