I held back on turning in the employment agreement due to a few red flags. The phone interviewer was 50 minutes late; her questions were not what you'd expect on an initial interview—she didn't even know where I was currently employed or my job history. She also had a very thick west Asian accent. After a 5-minute call, I was told I passed the phone screening and could consider myself employed once I returned the contract with a selfie and a copy of my driver's license. The employment contract required 30 days of training, with pay coming only after the 30 days. That's 30 days for a clerk's job, which is completely unreasonable and nearly unheard of. Then there is the commission on billings? Also strange. The company has only been incorporated for a year so I looked them up on the ScamPulse.com and found this first complaint from last week, almost exactly what I experienced down to the pay. Fortunately, I haven't sent the paperwork back, and won't, until I can verify their USDOT. Shipping companies cannot do business between states in the US without that number. This company says it does. Where is the number?
I decided to do a little more due diligence. The company is an interstate logistics and transportation firm, but there is no record of it with the Department of Transportation. The D&B for it is out of the UAE. Just in case, I emailed Isabel back and told her I just needed to verify her USDOT registration before completing the onboarding. Crickets.

I got contacted via email about a work from home position that offered a pay rate of $28.90 an hour with the possibility of earning a 3% commission on every invoice processed. They said I would be going through a 30-day probationary period and would get paid afterwards. From the beginning, I thought it sounded a bit fishy, but I decided to try to go for it and just take every precaution I could. They had me open an account on Wise.com and had me doing little, meaningless research jobs for almost a week, always promising me that they would be training me how to process payments and invoices, but it never happened. Thankfully, I had set up an entirely new bank account to use with the company, just in case it did turn out to be a scam, so they were not able to clean out my regular account. I am very glad I took that precaution.
