Type of a scam Counterfeit Product
I asked if they could have it ready by Thursday 23Jul2021 and they confirmed. They asked me to write my name and phone number on the envelope and said they would give me a call when it was ready.
I filled out the envelope with my name, number, address and instruction to replace the "Diamond". They said it would cost $85 to replace the diamond.
I also asked what it would cost to replace the missing stone with cubic zirconia and they said about $30. I reiterated that it had a diamond originally and that I wanted it to be replaced with a diamond. I said it a couple of times and that I didn't want to be swindled with a fake stone.
The store attendant assured me it would be a real diamond and that they would show me with the tester when I came to pick it up.
So, I never got a call to come and pick up my ring.
Today, 28Jul2021, I used my lunch break from work to go pick up my ring.
When I got there, I told the clerk that no one ever called me to pick up my ring like they said they would.
He apologized and brought it to me.
Upon first look, I saw that the size of the stone was noticeably different from the original (a matching original stone was on the other side of the ring).
When I felt the ring, the prongs around the new stone were very rough and scratchy.
The clerk felt them and agreed. He took the ring to try to file and smooth them out.
After about 3 different times, I told him I would take it, because I didn't want him to wear down the prongs any further.
I paid $90.40 ($85 plus $5.40 tax) via a credit card.
As I was very displeased with the results, I took the ring to 4 different jewelry stores in the same mall to have them confirm if the new stone was a diamond.
One Hour Jewelry Repair was not able to do such assessment.
But the other three, Zales, Kay Jewelers, and Helzberg Diamonds all tested the stone with their equipment and said, "the stone didn't test for anything!" And it certainly was NOT a diamond.
I went back to Gold Star Jewelry Inc and told them what the other jewelers said.
The clerk asked me for the ring and said "let me test it."
I asked him why wouldn't they have tested the stone before they put it in the ring, or before they gave it to me?
The stone didn't test as anything on his equipment either.
He took the ring to an associate and told him about it and the associate said to me: Leave it one more day and come back tomorrow.
I told him NO, I want a refund.
He said ok, took the ring over to another desk and took out the "FAKE" stone.
The first clerk processed my refund and asked me to sign the receipt, which I did.
He was preparing to give me both receipts and the second clerk (who took out the FAKE stone), pulled the original receipt back.
I asked if I could at least take a picture of the receipt for my records.
They allowed me to take a picture of the original purchase receipt and gave me the refund receipt.
I will check with my credit card company to confirm that the funds have been credited back.
I can almost assure you that I am not the only one that this has happened to.
Gold Star Jewelry Inc should be investigated to see if they are providing genuine products when a customer requests and pays for them.
