We were looking for a specific breed of cat (Devon Rex) and found this breeder's website. We looked at the site, kittens available, etc. I reached out via email to them and received what looked like a legitimate email response from someone who was clearly looking for responsible, loving people to adopt their kittens. After several back and forth emails, we decided to go forward. We were told it would be $600/kitten, plus $180/kitten to ship using a service through Delta/American airlines. We were told to pay through PayPal or Zelle (we used Zelle) as it was through my bank. We were excited, not truly feeling suspicious until the shipping company contacted us last night to verify information and then reached out again to tell us that the shipping crate needed to be changed from a ventilated crate to a thermal crate. This was going to be a pretty large cost, of which 95% would be returned by them when they delivered the kittens. We said we were not paying this and would reach out to the breeder. The breeder didn't answer but responded in text. We researched the shipping company online and the phone number the calls came from. While there is a legitimate shipping company, there are comments online that they are not shipping animals. The shipping company was going to call us back to confirm after we spoke to the breeder, but the breeder never called - just texted. So we stopped responding and therefore, no kittens, possibly out $1560.
