Good Afternoon,
I am writing in hope of preventing my recent situation from happening to any other unsuspecting person wanting to buy a family pet.
On Sunday, June 2, 2019 I decided to look online for a golden retriever. My wife’s dog of nine years died a couple of years ago and with our four children grown she said she is lonely from time to time. I said no for a year but broke down on Sunday.
I happened on Goldenretrieverscareinc.com. It is supposedly a Golden Retriever breeding farm in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I selected a dog, Gina, with my daughter to surprise my wife. I was greeted with an email with absolutely atrocious grammar and he never used his name. Both he and his web site stated that dogs are $700 and include AKC registration, bloodline certification, microchip, potty trained, etc. The breeder, Elvis Focho, asked me to come down to his farm to meet him but if inconvenient we could converse on line. He said there would be a delivery fee of $200 to take the animal to my home. He asked me to MoneyGram $900 Ref No 25140118 to him ask soon as possible beginning around 6 pm on June 2. He asked me to send him several pics of the MoneyGram confirmation of transmittal via text. Shortly after the transaction was completed, I received an email from MoneyGram banning me from using any of their services in the future. They gave me no reason. This was my one and only transaction with MoneyGram.
There are absolutely no reviews on line for Goldenretrieverscare.com. Also the site map shows a Coca Cola plant in another country. All calls both for the breeder and freight carrier were through Google. In the on line testimonials the company is referred to as Family Retrievers. Family Retrievers is a website that has the same featured animals and the same testimonials as Goldenretrieverscare.com.
The original prediction by Elvis was delivery of the dog to my home on Monday June 3 at midday. At 10:55 AM on Monday June 3 I received an urgent email from the freight carrier for the dog. Paramount Air County sent a long, very poorly written email indicating that if I did not wire $1,490 in 12 hours the dog would be put in quarantine. The fee was for pet travel insurance. However a Paramount agent Seanbogen Dalsim called me and said he needed the money in two hours to deliver the dog the same day. I wired the money by Western Union Tracking Number 167 321 6566. The agent requested a texted photo of the computer screen showing that the money was wired before the dog could be shipped.
At 4:29 PM on Monday, June 3, I received another horribly written email from Paramount saying that if I did not pay $1,065 by 6:30 PM, the dog would be shipped to Chicago for quarantine. The fee was for inoculating the dog for Giardia and for a “Cite” permit. I refused to pay the extra fee and was told by the Paramount agent that the dog would be quarantined in Chicago for 90 days and I would be responsible for paying $30 a day to keep the animal. To my knowledge, dogs are not inoculated for giardia. And shouldn’t the freight company have known prior to completing our contract that these two additional fees would be required? These are not new rules.
At that point I told the agent I was being scammed and was calling the FBI. He replied, “Awesome”.
I obviously would like to recover my stolen money but I am also interested in saving any other person the stress and ill spent money that I endured through this process.
