My name is *** and I’m calling to report a situation that I was involved in back in July 26, 2019. I contacted Google and asked Google for Amazon.com’s toll free number. They gave me the phone number. The toll free number I got from Google to contact Amazon.com is in the complaint filed with the Better Businss Bureau. In that situation, I needed an LG cell phone. I spoke to a person on the line by the name of Paul from Amazon called and explained to me when I asked him if they had an LG cell phone for sale. He said “yes they did” and that the phone would cost me $20, but that I need to go to the drive-thru store and get Google play store gift card for $100 and that they would send me the phone the next day. So he said that it was going to cost me $20, so I’m asking him why I need to get $100 gift card and how I’m going to get my $80 reimbursed or refunded. He said that he would send it to me by, I believe it was by mail or something like that, I went to he drive-thru store and bought the Google play store gift card and called him back when I got the card. Once I got back home with the $100 gift card once that I bought at the drive-thru store, Paul asked me to give him the serial number on the back on the gift card. I gave him that number then he said “hold on I’m going to let you speak my supervisor, Mohammad.” Mohammad immediately explained to me that the promotion had run out at 8pm, but by the time I gave him the information on the back of the card it was around 8:15pm - 8:20pm. If that was the case that the promotion ended at 8pm, I asked him why didn’t he tell me that before he got my information off the card? He told me “don’t worry...what we are going to do is to send you a free phone for your trouble. We are going to give you a phone, but you need to get another $140.” I told him that is $240 for this free phone. He told me that he is going to give me back all of the $240. I told him “no sir. I don’t have any more money to invest in this here free phone that you are going to send me the following day.” He told me that this was the only way I was going to be able to get the phone is with another $140 gift card and that he was going to reimburse the entire $240. I told Mohammad that I was not going to buy any more gift cards.
To speak on Paul who took the information from the 8:15pm - 8:20 pm call. Since the promotion ran out at 8pm as Mohammad stated. Then I was disconnected… the call was disconnected, but before he disconnected the call he said, when I asked to speak back to Paul, “No, you cannot speak back to Paul.” I asked him, “what do you mean I can’t speak back with Paul? He is the one that took the gift card information. If the promotion ended at 8p, you need to give me back my $100 and forget about this here phone.” That is when the phone disconnected the call.
