Type of a scam Online Purchase
Shortly afterwards I received another email. All emails from 4 or 5 different people in GA's office are sent using the same email address (2nd red flag) This one asked me to pay the full amount of the auction. I refereed them to their own email (from a different person) and checked my PayPal account to see if the payment had gone through. I noticed then, that I had actually paid them too much. My mistake was in paying US$ instead of AUS$. I told them that they needed to refund me around $700US. The girl said it would take a few days, that she needed to speak with her boss first. This got me really worried. I did a lot of research into GA and couldn't find one positive review or even a good remark about them. The few people who had received their goods said they were nothing like the items described. The $10,000 rings were worth $100 if that. Original artwork was photocopies etc etc. I googled their business. The amount of auctions they have every week, they would need a huge warehouse and office setup. Their office is in the middle of a car park. I asked for photos of my goods. They sent the same pictures from the auction. I asked for any pictures of their office, their warehouse, shipping, their staff, one single bidder, even the name above the door, just one. I got nothing. I looked into their other auctions. They have a 'Historic Government Auction' every other week. They list the exact same items, auction after auction. They listed some of the items that I had already purchased in upcoming auctions. Every picture is a 'stock' picture. There are no photographs. They listed an Elvis limited edition, framed autographed LP/Picture (#26/500) in 8 separate auctions over a 2 month period. The same Government Auctions with the exact same items week after week. And their T&C's at the time basically said 'What you see is what you are bidding on so be certain before purchasing' but the pictures are not what the bidder is bidding on. That alone is fraud is it not? And not to forget, they make each auction look like it is a genuine US Government sanctioned auction with items provided through the US Government departments responsible for business liquidations etc.
Anyway, I kicked up such a fuss, wrote them emails describing to them what I have described here for you. I told them they were frauds. They were trying to gain peoples money in a fraudulent manner with auctions for items that did not exist. I told them to send me pictures of my goods or give me my money back. They never contradicted me. Never denied my allegations. Never questioned my emails. And never tried to charge me the auctioneers margin etc. Two days later, I was fully reimbursed. I believe they thought I would just go away. No chance, but I hate to think what might have happened if I had not made such a nuisance of myself.
I've since written to Invaluable explaining everything, but GA is still there, still running these sham auctions. So here I am, reporting GA for the scam that they are. I hope you can understand my somewhat rambling description. If you need anything further from me, please contact me at ***. Also, it appears that the only way to see their 'Government Liquidation' auctions is via Invaluable.com. Their website only shows, what others have described as, a land auction scam. [One final point. I reside in *** ***. Your form below does not seem to allow for that, so I have clicked on USA/California as my location. Apologies for that]
