Grupo Santillana Reports & Reviews (16)

I went through the same thing with Arthur Gurley. Thank God I contacted Grupo Santillana from Spain and asked them about the job opportunities in USA. They told me they hadn't been operating in the states for over two years. I had already deposited the check, but it hadn't cleared so I didn't loose any money but they closed my account which I had just opened ?.

I researched REDDIT immediately after I reviewed this job offer on INDEED. But I did go forward with the interview which raised red flags with me. Nobody does text interviews only, with no verbal engagement with the interviewee. When I was offered the job, I told Gurley about the negative reviews he was receiving on REDDIT. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt allowing him to counter the SCAM reports. At first he just continued to describe the job opportunity, but when I pushed, he ignored all future communication.

It’s a scam folks. This is an alert to all future writers. The job is too good true. Hence it is.

When I questioned him about why my account was in the negative, he kept telling me to hold.

On April 20th, 2021 I received a text message from a woman named Julie Morgan that is a temporary recruiter at Grupo Santillana Company claiming she saw my resume on Indeed and was offering me a Freelance Writer position for $35/hour. Then she went on to say that the interview will be held on WhatsApp or Telegram, that I had to reach out to an Arthur Gurley. I did that and had the interview. They offered me the position. When it came to paying for all materials needed for the job, they emailed me a check for $2,350 that they rushed me to deposit through my bank app. After it cleared, they asked me to Apple Pay that money to their vendor. Once that was done, Arthur told me that the vendor said that wasn't enough money and that they will be sending me a second check, which was for $1,950. Now I'm out $2,358.27 and won't have rent for next month.

The phone number for Julie Morgan is (407) 216-7633 and the phone number for Arthur Gurley is (321) 245-9689. I'm attaching both checks.

On April 27, 2021, I was contacted via text for a remote freelance writing job from a recruiter at the Grupo Santillana Company. Because I am fluent in Spanish and used to live in Puerto Rico, I was very excited to receive this offer and I immediately began researching the company in preparation of the "interview". My research brought me here. Thank you for the warning. It really would have crushed me.

That was the job I was offered on the 20th. Unfortunately, I didn't do research before I fell for it.

John Mayle interviewed me on December 29, 2020 through WhatsApp. Everything sounded promising until he sent those checks that looked horribly scanned. The only reason I went through with it was because he sent the checks first. So I cashed in the checks through my bank's mobile app and after a few days while doing 2/3 of the "trust exercise" and the bank basically said that the checks were suspicious of fraud. So I told him what happened, he basically played stupid for a while. Then he got a bit defensing, thinking that I thought he purposefully screw up my funds, kept trying to convince to send the rest of the money, promising that I'd get my money back afterwards despite that NOT being how the process was supposed to work in the first place. He kept saying things like how fear w[censored]ding me back, that I had to trust him, and that people would absolutely compete for this job. Then he basically tried to guilt-trip me. My final response was open ended: Return the money that was owed to me, and THEN we can proceed. Needless to say: He didn't oblige or even respond back.

Jennifer Loh essentially implied that this type of situation has happened before. Those checks were fraudulent by the way-I researched the information they provided: One check had an outdated company name (they haven't gone by that name for 8 years now), and the other two checks had a slightly different name from the main law firm that actually takes residence of the provided address. If Grupo Santillana is as legit as they say they are, then maybe they should have the same interview process like everyone else to AVOID THESE KINDS OF "MISTAKES"!

As far as I can tell, Mr. Mayle got fired if his status from business account to regular on WhatsApp is any indication. However, I highly doubt this "interview process" has stopped since then.

Me again. For some reason "holding me back" got censored...

Arthur Gurley reached out to me about a Proofreader job that paid $35/hr. I jumped at the chance and setup the interview which was conducted via WhatsApp. I asked a question during the interview; like if I could schedule it at a later date but was ignored almost as if it were a script so I just decided to get it over with. The questions were vague for the most part but I did stupidly visit their site and navigated through it for 5 minutes so who knows if my phone has any malware or not now. I kept going with the interview to the point where they asked for my email, name, and mailing address which I also blindly gave so I’m extremely paranoid. However once the interview ended and he was “sending the interview answers over to someone” I became extremely suspicious and decided to look up the company and reviews for it. This is probably the site with the most thorough and real reviews aside from 1-2 reddit articles. But after reading up on it I have since blocked and reported the number and WhatsApp account. Cleared my browsing history and data in settings and reported the scam to a government site. There is also a similar company named Celina Inc. which is also a scam. Please be careful and assume that anyone reaching out anywhere aside from Indeed’s actual website, is a scammer.

That was the pay for their freelance writer job. I guess they pay everyone the same thing so no one catches on to their scam.

I feel so stupid. I fell for this as well. And it’s crazy because I’m actually a journalist major. Almost done with my associates for journalism, so I jumped on this “writing job” I did the interview questions, and the next day put everything together. I seriously can’t believe I fell for this scam. I feel like an [censored]. Those “interview questions” seem so legit to.

I also received a text message from a temporary recruiter, saying she found me on Indeed for a freelance copywriter position. I had to hop on WhatsApp with an Arthur Gurley for the "interview" too. I noticed some of the questions were odd, but did look at the website for Grupo Santillana, which was one of the things they had me do. They stopped responding to me in the middle of the interview (which was supposed to last 40 minutes.) After no response for another 40 minutes, I moved on to do other things. about six hours later, I received a text on What's App with an apology - tech issues - and 12 interview questions. I answered them late that night. The next day, I received another text telling me about the training. I asked a question, but it was never answered and I received another text with a long list of items Macbook, Printers, Cables, etc. that they were supposed to be sending me. This seemed really odd, so I Googled Grupo Santillana and landed here. I am going to also report them to Indeed and WhatsApp. Glad I found this page before spending any more time with these scammers.

I had applied for a proofreading job posted by Grupo Santillana on LinkedIn and noticed that it looked pretty sparse. I was contacted by someone named Jennifer Loh and was offered that job for $35/hr. I knew that it was too good to be true, and when I responded the person said that they would use either Telegram or WhatsApp to contact me. I remember nearly falling for a scam before and I used the Telegram app to contact the scammer, which only made me more suspicious. I tried to look up the company but I couldn't find anything to definitely prove the job offer was legit. I went on scampulse and saw that others had complained about this "job", and I reported them to LinkedIn as a scam. I saw 18 other applicants to this job, but hopefully they won't fall victim to this scam.

Temporary recruiter reached out to me claiming to have found my resume on indeed and John Mayle interviewed me through WhatsApp for a proofreading position with the Grupo Santillana publishing company. I was sent a hiring package the next morning following my interview (interview ended around 10pm that night over text message *very informal*) After sending over employment verification information I was "hired" and sent multiple checks and told to deposit them for working materials (laptop, printer, usb cable). Company sent me many checks as none of them were depositing and then eventually sent me cash through zelle. After going through all of this I finally contacted Indeed and asked about the company and they verified that no company by the name of Grupo Santillana is on indeed. This is a SCAM. wish I had known sooner. Haven't lost anything so far as of (02/10/2021) but very disappointed in how advanced this scam was.

It's not your fault. Those scammers shouldn't have done that in the first place. At least you reported them before they took anything. I've been through the same situation and felt humiliated for weeks. However, I learned that the best thing to do is not to blame yourself, dust yourself off, and make sure to be more careful next time. Things are hard for everyone right now and most people prey on that vulnerability just to make a quick buck. However, that doesn't mean they won't get their comeuppance. I'm sure you'll find something that's legit and works best for you. Don't give up!

I was first contacted via text for a remote job as a translator for Santillana Group, which I know to be a legit corporation. Then, I was referred to a WhatsApp business account where I was asked interview questions. The process seemed odd but the interviewer's questions seemed very legit and I wasn't asked for any private information. Also, this would have been my first time being hired for a fully remote position so I thought maybe this is how things work now, post COVID.

Then I received the offer letter, which was oddly soon. I printed it out to review everything carefully and do further research on the company and executives. None of the would be executives had linkedin profiles and then I found a previous scam report with the BBB.

I reported the business profile with WhatsApp and blocked the number.
