Received letter from "GTC" in mail March 27th, 2017 at my home in Kansas City, MO. No return address is listed, but the envelope indicates postage permit #801 from Springfield, MO. The letter claims the recipient is "going to receive an Android Touchpad Tablet from our gifting department, at NO CHARGE."
The letter instructs the recipient to call the gifting department toll free at 1-888-362-9381 and reference the RSVP gift code printed on the letter. Those who "call now" will receive a complimentary $300 restaurant card. Those among the first 50 to call could win $100 "cold hard cash." Limited time offer.
The letter is signed by initials--perhaps MP? The signer's title is listed as Vice President, Regional Awards Division.
I did a quick check for scams on the Kansas City BBB website and didn't see the GTC scam listed, but I could have missed it. A general Internet search hit brings up a 2013 post from WGAL8 News, Susquehanna Valley, PA, describing the promotion as a scam and cautions:
"According to the ScamPulse.com, this is a telemarketing scam to promote a high priced travel and vacation club. The BBB also says that by calling the phone number on the letter, consumers' phone numbers may be shared or sold for future robocalls."
