The business I booked a hair dye job through, Balayage Studio, was not the business at that address. When I arrived, the business was called Gramercy's Best Barbers, who have an expired barbershop license from the NY Dept of State (BSO-19-00238, expired in June 2023). The photos thy used on their website and on Google show customers standing in front of a sign reading "Balayage Studio." which again was the business I booked through but not the business there at the address. Furthermore, I had a cut on my scalp and red blotches over my scalp after the hair dye job I received. I requested a refund, and they blamed me and said they would not refund me but offered to give me Botox, which they do not have a license for. They also charged me $451.80 which included an automatic tip I asked them to void and they said they did and sent me a receipt for $38, but the bank finalized the amount I paid as $451.80 which is incorrect. I wish to receive a refund for this and report them for operating without a proper license.

Da’Vonte Hunter is a very well known hairstylist located in Chicago who also does business in Atlanta, Georgia. After researching hairstylist on Instagram, I came across Da’Vonte’s page. I noticed he did great work and some of my friends also followed him. I booked an appointment under the subcategory of “DOLLHOUSE frontal sew in special”. On the website, Da’Vonte mentions there is a $25.00 deposit. Once booked for the service I texted to confirm the hairstyle that I wanted. He proceeds to tell me that I would have to pay an additional $200 for the service in order to obtain materials. I did so via ZELLE.

As I arrived to my hair appointment there was 3 other ladies there being serviced by Da’Vonte. I noticed that no one person knew the other, but Da’Vonte had been using the same materials on everyone. Da’Vonte had not washed his hands between clients, he had not sanitized materials between clients, nor did he consider any allergies.

Finishing my appointment, I paid cash but once I left I received a text from Da’Vonte requesting more money which I sent over. Less than 24 hours later I was forced to remove the hairstyle. The install was extremely tight and unbearable. After removing the install I noticed that my ear had been cut from misplacement of the install and the thread used. There was a breakout presumed to be an allergic reaction from what was used at the time of the appointment. After contacting Da’Vonte about the matter I was blocked. I did research and not only did I find out that he does not possess a hairstyling license, but he was ordered a Cease and Desist letter from the City of Chicago to stop all hairstyling, barbering, and cutting hair for lack thereof. I am now blocked by phone and social media from contacting Da’Vonte. I am requesting some type of money back for the inconvenience of the hair install.
