Type of a scam Online Purchase
I accessed the HaloBoard website initially to find a “4th of July sale” being promoted, where visitors to the site are made to believe the sale is only available for only 1-2 hours by way of a counter (from the time the site is visited). However, there is no legitimacy to the counter, and it is renewed for any user that accesses the site and irrelevant for any purpose than surreptitious marketing. No notes are made on the website that mentions the sale is to last a set amount of time other than the superfluous counter.
Further, the front page of the website and elsewhere refer to their product as “indestructible” and comprised of “high grade aluminum frame and guards”. In no way is this device close to indestructible, and nothing is clear about what they refer to as the “frame”. The interpretation of the description made me believe the “frame”, or casing of the board, were made of high grade aluminum. It is not. The wing guards are part of the “off-road”, “indestructible” model and selling points, and in place specifically to take impact. Though the design is such that the wing guards are mounted to a rather low grade plastic frame/body, which is surely to amount in breakage.
Everything surrounding my purchase has been misleading, and customer service has been all but nonexistent. Call after call is rerouted back to the website, wherein they suggest emailing support. Multiple emails and reviews later, and I have yet to speak with a representative about their product. No contact has been made outside of the automated messages.
For paying such a premium (the most expensive hoverboard on the market — even with the sale), something that claims to be off road, indestructible, and made with a metal frame should not break within 24 hours of receiving it.
Lastly, the reviews posted to the website appear to be curated. Moderators must approve a message, which is understandable, but they appear to be making critical comments extremely difficult to access if not entirely suppressed.
