I was contacted by two men on two separate occasions. First one was on 7/24/17 and the second was on 7/25/17. First one was claiming to be with Hawaiian Electric and the second from Hawaii Electric Light Co. based on Maui and Hawaii (Big Island). I live on Oahu, and the first incident they asked to speak to a manager or someone in charge. I was told the service at our shop was going to be cut off in 30mins if a $498 delinquency wasn't immediately paid. I questioned this with my most recent bill in hand and asked why wasn't I given notice of service interruption or missed payment and was firmly told, all necessary paperwork was sent out to me and in order to rectify this I would need to make a credit card payment for the full amount. I said here is my latest bill stating date, amount due and all other information and called this conversation a scam, at which point the caller hung up. The second occurrence was the very next day, different person with the same story. I knew what to expect, so I read this guy the riot act, and he too immediately hung up. I called and confirmed with each company the problem and have NO delinquency with said Electric Co. this is in fact a scam, targeting new service customers, and it is either a very sophisticated hack job by use the Electric Co. phone number or an employee inside committing fraud.
