They had an apartment listed on Facebook marketplace. I reached out with interest. They immediately got back to me saying it was available for rent and told me before I could see the property they needed to have an application filled out with a fully refundable application fee of $50. They said they needed to do a background check before having the person over to see the property. I stupidly paid it and filled out the application. The guy then said I needed to give them a $400 security deposit upfront to which I said absolutely not. They then said I could pay half of it, $200, which I again refused. They said they would talk to their manager and get back to me. They didn't until I asked for the money back and threatened to file a report for fraud. We went back and forth a bit and eventually when I threatened to go to the police did he finally offer to show me the property. I declined and again requested a refund, and have not heard back since.
