I was looking to rent an apartment in Santa Monica closer to my job. I found this home for rent for $1800 a month. I reached out to the ad on Craig’s list. I emailed back and forth with the manager named Terry Paul. I told him I was very much interested and ready to move in. He said due to the family losing a loved one, I would be able to see the apartment on Sunday March 5th. If I liked it then I could move in March 6th. He said I was able to secure the spot once I sent him the deposit. It was a great place, I had drove around the area, and for the price I was sold. So I sent the $3,500 through my Zelle and had my mother send the rest of the deposit $100.00. The total deposit was $1800.00 and first months rent was $1,800. My bank only aloud me to send $3,500.

The transaction happened February 24th. I had asked Terry via email to send me the confirmation asap. He said he was waiting on the landlords response, Heather Dumas. I had sent her the payment via Zelle to [email protected]. On February 25th, Terry emails me and said the Landlord received the payment but they forgot to mention there was another fee they forgot to mention and it would be a cleaning fee of $1,200.00. Which I disagreed with and then asked for my refund. After that I have not received a response nor my refund.

I have their bank account number and routing number they wanted me to send money to.
