About a week ago we received an invoice from Austin Gastroenterology Anesthesia Associates LLC. This was thought to be from my wife’s procedure in June this year. The bill indicated details of the amount paid by insurance, the doctor’s name, location of service as well our name and address. When I went on line to pay what looked like a valid statement, I received an error on my screen that the payment could not be completed. I called the number on the screen and was told that I had paid twice the amount shown on the statement. The individual on the phone said the he could process a refund to correct the issue. I was told that they would call from a different phone. That call came from Ennius TX. That representative said he would help with the refund. He took the payment information from what had been done and then gave instructions to complete the refund. I followed the instructions to the letter and somehow the amount of the refund came out as $2000 and things started to get out of hand I was shown an apparent deposit of two thousand dollars to my account. I became very suspicious when the person on the phone said I needed to obtain three five hundred dollars in gift cards to pay them back. I then stated that this was a fraudulent scheme. I disconnected the call and realized that my computer had been taken over. I learned that these folks had ordered Xbox software from Amazon and only on order was processed for 70 dollars which could be cancelled or refunded. Amazon reps then froze my account and we changed passwords. The next day my wife and I went to our banking institutions and changed the accounts. While we were away I received additional messages indicating that I had ordered several gift cards and Amazon blocked the orders as fraudulent. I then closed my Amazon account and proceeded to clean my computer of malware.

This has caused much heartburn.
