Type of a scam Online Purchase
On or about August 31st, 2016, I was contacted by an individual who identified himself as Steve Beck after he saw my ad listed at autotrader.ca. Mr. Beck informed me that he had a buyer for my equipment as he had a client bid on a similar machine and lost the auction. Mr. Beck further advised that he had taken the liberty of sending his client the info of my machine and said client was interested and would accept the purchase price requested by myself. During this communication Mr. Beck advised that I needed to register with ‘Bidders Circle’ at a cost of $1,000 (US).
On or about September 1st, 2016, I was contacted again by Mr. Beck who advised that his client had accepted the purchase price on my machine. Mr. Beck further advised that he had just finished a ‘promising’ call with Hancock Financial in regards to assisting his client in financing the purchase of my machine. Mr. Beck again advised that I would need to register with Bidders Circle in order to accept this bid, however, my registration fee would be reimbursed at the time of receipt of funds which was to be Monday, September 12, 2016.
On or about September 1st, 2016, based on the representations made by Mr. Beck, on behalf of Bidders Circle, that his client accepted the bid and that the registration fee would be reimbursed, I authorized the amount of $1,000 (US) to be charged on our corporate credit card.
On or about September 8th, 2016, I contacted Mr. Beck via the email address provided to discuss if his client was in a position to close Monday, September 12, 2016, as previously represented to no response.
On or about September 11th, 2016, I contacted Mr. Beck to advise that I had not heard from him in regards to his client closing on the sale Monday, September 12, 2016, again to no response.
On or about September 12, 2016, I have found multiple references online in regards to Heartland Media Group and similar tactics being used to lure individuals to registering with your sites, such as the one below:
“I was contacted by these people from an ad I put on Craigslist to sell my RV. This guy gave me a long, detailed song and dance saying they had a person who had bid on a trailer similar to mine and lost the auction. Their bid was still active, and they had seen my trailer and wanted it. All I had to do was list my RV on the auction site($399) and his bid would transfer to me within a few hours. The pitch is good, the salesman very good. I asked directly "so your saying, there is zero chance my RV will not sell by tomorrow". The dude lied straight up. He called the next day to tell me to expect my bid within a couple hours. By this time though, I had looked hard on google and seen many others saying the same thing, great pitch, all lies, then nothing.”
It is very apparent they are misrepresenting their service as a means to enrich themselves.
