He contacted me by text on Friday July 3rd and said, “hi [name] am owner of the golden retriever ppuppy…I send you an email. Did you receive it?”
I told him I had already responded to his queries in a return e-mail. He sent a series of puppy pictures.
He responded that he got it and replied back and told me to check e-mail again. He asked me to e-mail all delivery details needed for delivery.
I asked for his/their names. He replied, “My names are Armando Churchill,” as though we would say names (people plural), not referring to one person’s possible names. I thought it was odd because he indicated that he had a pregnant wife & they were getting out of the breeding business to start their family.
Next texts were about payment using a downloadable app. I struggled to get the app to link to my card or account. Was confused by multiple apps having similar names and he clarified which one to download. I could not get app system to work. With the potential interaction with this app. I got another name from the account from cashapp.com which was: “I’d” (should have been ID) $TMappl with Names: Talissa Marie Apple. Maybe a fake name, who knows?
He suggested using a Vanilla Visa gift card from a local drug store. I was familiar with these. He requested a $400.00 down payment to “hold” the puppy I selected. On July 4th, I purchased the card and I sent him pictures of the receipt, and front and back sides of the Visa card via text.
I asked what are the next steps? He said was making arrangements for the puppy to be shipped during the day/time I requested. He said he would begin to arrange shipping and delivery to my home of the puppy. He clarified a Wednesday delivery.
On Monday, July 6th at 5:20pm I asked if there was any progress on plans to ship my puppy. He said that Tuesday he would forward a tracking number to me and he arranged a Tuesday delivery to my door.
Tuesday July 7th at 9:25am I asked if there was progress with the plans. At 11:42 I asked if the puppy had been picked up from his place. Sent message again at 1:28 and asked about the tracking number.
He said to check my e-mail to answer more questions…. Which I did quickly. Around 1:35 my daughter investigated the business to see if it was scam. She informed me that it was indeed a scam.
She spoke to the man using his phone # from the texts. He had a thick Indian accent (as do many legitimate Americans and breeders) and she could hear other calls were occurring as if from a call center. She asked him his age and he stalled. Then he said “64,” which seemed NOT to match that he and his wife were expecting their first baby (though not impossible). Too many inconsistencies.
She called my brother, a lawyer who advised how to proceed.
At 3:30 I texted, “Well?????? Still waiting…..”
Finally I sent a seething response about his real status as a man and human….not that it would change anything, but it just felt good to let him know what a low-life [censored] he is to rob hard-working people who want a special dog of their money and dreams.
