My family was looking to buy a teacup puppy and found the perfect one online. My 10yr old literally burst into tears with excitement at the thought of owning "Tom" a 12wk old teacup chihuahua puppy. I contacted the seller via the "Contact" tab on the site and they promptly text me. A man named Andre Jones, or at least that is what he gave as his name, seemed thrilled to find a good home for the pup after I answered questions about our family and environment. His main concern seemed to be payment which he insisted be wired through Western Union, then Tom would be shipped. I was weary of this because to our family the cost, $550.00, was a lot of money but an amount we were willing to pay to bring this adorable pup into our family. He continued to persist with texts asking how soon I would be sending money. Still feeling unsettled, I researched what to look for in scams and the wiring of payment was at the top of the list. Also, texting phrases that appeared to be broken English was another and this man also fit the bill for this, as well as many other red flags that were listed. A suggestion to weed out the scammers was to request documentation which I did. I asked for a contract to protect myself and ensure once pymt was made, the pup would be sent, but upon receiving, via email, the contract header was not the same company name and the contract and transfer of ownersip paper showed discrepancies in the address. There was also a difference in pymt amount from what the initial email and site stated to what they original asked for via the first text message. This was cleared up by the seller by saying the additional amount was for home delivery, not just standard shipping. I made it quite clear I was not interested in home delivery, and he finally relented for the advertised amount of 550.00 which included shipping instead of the 650.00 he now wanted. Also no where in the contract did it state a guarantee that I would receive the pup once pymt was received. I was still trying to be optimistic so I asked for two other things that the scam checklist suggested, a recent photo of the pup next to today's newspaper and also to make pymt via Paypal since it is traceable and would protect me from just being out hundreds of dollars if I never received the puppy. He would never provide the photos, only ones that I had already seen on the site and said he had no Paypal. I explained that I didn't either, but that I would be willing to set one up for this transaction. I saw this as a relatively easy way for us to form a sense of trust, and thought it would be an easy show of good faith on his part. Both of my requests were avoided. He just kept saying I was being an untruthful person and he just wanted good homes for his puppies, but continued to say things like, "Just pay the 550.00" and "If you want Tom, just go to Western Union." With that, I was done communicating with this person. I let him know that I would be reporting his site. He continued to act as if providing me with the vague contract was a huge gesture on his part, and that it was something he had never provided to previous customers. That is when I knew I had to get the word out about this site. No one should enter into an agreement without a contract, but many people evidently had with this person so I want to make sure no one gets their money stolen. Needless to say, my daughter was devastated, but we are still looking for a puppy and have chosen to do so locally so we can pick our puppy up in person. No one should have their hopes up, and take the risk of losing hundreds of dollars which I feel is exactly what would have happened had I wire transferred money to this person. If I'm wrong, then they should still be held to uphold a sense of professionalism, which I feel was not done. I feel fully confident saying this was a scam. Upon doing a reverse lookup, the name did not match the one I was given, the domain address was unknown, and all testimonials on the site were within the past month or two, and showed no details for the consumer, just a first name. I feel they put that information on their site falsely and that these weren't real people at all. My fear is they will just open a new site if this one is shut down, which I hope is the case. I do not believe the pups on the site even exist. I have saved all email and text communication I had with this person in case it is needed for investigation purposes. There are many stories online from people who actually did send the money to sites like this, and up to that point, their stories of the sellers are exactly like mine. I hope my story helps to protect people in the future from being victimized by this particular site/person.
