Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
The FedEx envelope: The sender return address is David Bryant of Henry Schein, Inc, of Indianapolis. I do not know this person. The sender phone number listed is 631-843-5700. The recipient address is of course me.
The Check: Dated 17 September 2019, it says pay to the order of me. I am not expecting a payment of $2500. I did not deposit the check. It looks absolutely real and has no agreements above the endorsement box. The issuer is Crown Bank of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The "Remitter" is identified as Joshua Dettman. I don't know this person.
The Letter Envelope: The letter envelope is hand written, but nothing else is. It has a recipient address with my name and address, but no return address.
The letter: There is no letterhead. The format and phrasing is ametuerish. The author of the letter identifies as "Caroline Hampton, CPA/Financial Accounting Officer." The letter asks me to send an email to [email protected] once I have deposited the check.
I Googled [email protected] and found that one other person had been scammed in connection with this email address.
