Type of a scam Online Purchase
The car was being sold using an escrow account. I had bought and sold cars previously using an escrow account and was familiar with wiring funds to an escrow bank (Bank of America). The seller ships the car to the buyer, and the buyer has a few days to approve the sale and release the escrow funds to the seller or to return the car. I questioned the seller about the escrow agent as I had never heard of Henwood Transit Ltd but they were using the Bank of America as the escrow account, so I felt comfortable. The Purchase Agreement is attached as Exhibit B. I wired the funds to the escrow account ($27,700) and received confirmation of the receipt of funds (Exhibit C) and shipment. The next communication I received was from the shipper was that the car was in transit in Memphis, TN (Exhibit D) and was to be delivered to me in ***** ***** on March 20th, 2023. That was the last communication that I received from the seller or the shipper.
I believe I have been scammed.
If the car exists, I do not believe that the Seller or the Shipper intended to ship the car.
I believe that the Seller and the Shipper co-conspired in this fraud.
