My mother was contacted with a message claiming the call was from Amazon and that they needed to verify a purchase made. She called them and they then sent an email claiming to be from amazon and suspending the amazon account. They then had her purchase $1900 in gift cards and told her they would refund her money. They also sent her a link so they could control her laptop while she logged in to her bank account and made it seem that they transferred money into her account. She also provided them with the last 4 digits of her social security number. They are still texting her asking her to purchase another gift card for $1000.
