Type of a scam Home Improvement
On Nov. 12, 2023 a young man knocked on his front door about noon and asked if he would like to have his eavestroughs cleared of fallen leaves, etc. for $40. He agreed. Following this two other men arrived and got up to his roof. They then told him that his roof needed some emergency repairs/work. They apparently showed him some pictures on a phone that supposedly depicted damages. They told him that they could do the necessary repairs that afternoon for $2800. They said payment could either be made by e-transfer or cash. My brother does not have a computer. My brother ten went to his bank and withdrew the $2800. Using a printed sheet with A-Class Roofing and Masonry's name, address, telephone number , etc. they filled in my brother's address, telephone number and a handwritten contract number and checking off four boxes purporting to describe the work to be done in general (nothing specific) and showing the subtotal and total charges being $2800. with no charge for taxes.
Although these men stayed at my brother's house for a few hours and then indicated the work was complete he gave them the $2800. He later thought he may have been duped. My brother's house is a smaller detached structure with a roof that has steep slopes. I visited his him the next day and upon looking at all slopes to the roof and the eavestroughs it is quite apparent that very little, if any, repair work was done. The eavestroughs were still showing leaves in them.
My brother now feels certain that he was scammed.
