They went on the roof immediatley and broke holes in it.
They gave my parents a $12,000 quote, which my parents ok'd. Then got on the roof tore it up and said my parents would have to re-do everything and it would cost $55,000.
They tore off plywood that was still.in.perfect condition, and said they job would take 10 days.
They had no business address, BIN nuber, HST number or proof of insurance.
When my husband and I called they told us many lies different from what they told my arents. Various people pretended to be the owners of the company. We were given mostly irish or scottish names when we pried. There is no address or names of the people who work for the company online.
They would not let my parents pay with cheque or any other format. They took 2 installments of $10,000 in cash up front. 1 before the work started and another a couple days in.
They bought some materials with the first $10,000 and after taking the second $10,000 disappeared.
They charged for plywood and used OSB.
They never provided a cost breakdown.
When asked about insurance they got very angry and refused to provide it. After much conversation they gave us a name and it was a fake insurance company (one that was for medical doctors) - Lavine insurance group.
Some names they gave us were James and Robert said they were brothers and Scottish and came to the house. They both had accents. James said he owned the company which was later found to be a lie. Drew was on site sometimes.
In a later phone call James said he was just a saled rep and the director of the company was Lee Collins. Then the next day another man, I asked if I was speaking to James and he said no. This man did not have an accent and he claimed to be the owner. When asked about Lee Collins he said they were partners. This man gave a name that was not James, but at the end of the phone call when we asked for his name again he said he was James - we said you said you were not James, and he got angry saying he's not sales rep James hes owner James. We asked his last name and he seemed confused then said he was James Oshea.
We asked them not to return until they provided proof of WSIB and Liability insurance, and they never came back, pocketing the second installment of $10,000.
We said we would have to report them and get the authorities involved and they said they'd issue a refund, but would jot tell us how, how much, or when. And we havent heard from them since. It is currently October 29th 2023.
The company said they were based in Mississauga, but there is no address.
