The flooring contractor assured me that all I had to do was pay for two boxes of flooring tiles from a reputable company. He told me typically for landlords they triple price for his service but for me he would give me the base deal and all contractors want to deal with business not individual. We went to shop to purchase material and they said may be in stock or can take two weeks to come in. The contractor contacted me all weekend stating he was at the warehouse and confirmed the night before he was supposed to install (flooring was already removed) that it was not available but he found a solution that required me to pay up front 150 dollars so he could tailor material for me and meet the timeline I required as he was aware I was moving out end of week. He took the cash and said he would be back in a few hours - his story did not add up and he said the only wood replacement he could provide was material that did not fit so he was going to be delayed more but was not going to charge me for extra. He still has not come by and I don't know what we paid for (we don't have a receipt, we trusted him when he said we just had to pay originally from the reputable store). It is not clear if he will finish the job and he asks for money up front for pieces of the work without providing a quote up front. In writing. He will write via text only eluding to the work.
