Home Improvement Contractor Scam Reports & Reviews (45)

- Allentown, PA, USA

Truck with asphalt equipment said they were finishing a job and said they would give me a discount to resurface drive way. Asked how many gallons it might take and they said 1 or 2 at $50 a gallon. I figured that most resurfacing is about that price and so I said okay. Then when the job was done, he said it was 17 gallons. I said no way and he said for $400 cash we would call it square because I was helping him out.

The whole exchange felt weird so I googled his name and found similar scams under similar names. Also on the card he gave me, "ashphalt" was misspelled upon further review.

Myles Doran with Town & City Home Improvements stopped at my home after seeing my driveway was done with pavers. He asked if I would like the driveway and patio power washed, lay killen dry sand and seal entire driveway and patio. I agreed. He then talked me into ripping up my driveway and lay in 45% herringbone with new sand below, power wash, ,and compact using existing pavers. He power washed the patio but never did the driveway. The power washing and re-sanding jobs were horrible, and he never sealed the driveway or patio. I called Myles on 9/15/2022 (571-470-3953) and asked if the job would be completed and he said he would be back that weekend to finish it. I called the company on 11/7/2022 (571-436-8789) and they said they would finish the job. I have not heard back from them since. My mistake was having Myles talk me into paying him in full on 9/14/2022. I can no longer access their website (www.townandcityhomeimprovements.com) and am not sure if the email is legitimate (townandcityhomeimprovements@mail.com).

Unsolicited person came to the house and said he was a contractor. Stated roof work was needed. Harassed a senior to sign a contract which was then changed from 10k to 45k. Called the person that had the initial money and was hostile towards them about payment, wanted money wired. Failed to provide receipts, cost breakdown and contractor license when asked. Created a “emergency” situation by ripping the roof off when asked about a permit that is required for structural work. Business information unable to be located and verified via Google and Better Business Bureau.

- Bronx, NY, USA

Bronner was paid in advance to build steps for a deck and buy materials for the work. He subsequently decided not to do the work and has refused to refund the $600, despite making a number of written promises (via text) to do so.
